No I think its a mix of both - Having read alot of heavy dry and a tonne of dark dead suicidal authors now considered 'classics' over time - I can tell you - if what you are reading or listening to does not take your interest or imagination - whether you read or listen - that info or story simply will not get through - so it may just become white noise

Same thing if you dont understand what the author is trying to say or dont like what or how they are trying to say it -

whether you are reading it or someone one else is reading it - it can just become a mess of words

I read enough on the computer.
I once got RSI from reading 'The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.'

Makes sense from both of you, I've never read a book in my life which is why I'm so curious.

Here emu - a couple of extracts from kinds of texts I have over time been forced to read

    http://www.osea-cite.org/class/SELT_...ssed_ch2-3.pdf

    https://monoskop.org/images/9/90/Fou..._Knowledge.pdf

    https://www.gutenberg.org/files/30107/30107-pdf.pdf

When I started reading this sort of stuff - even tho I was an advanced reader in other stuff -I struggled alot to understand it properly and it didnt matter how many times it was explained to me - I would start reading or try to listen but my mind would glaze over

In the end I resorted seriously to comics books on the subjects just to get the basics down pat - now in the modern age I often use Youtube to do the same as the comic books did back then - but once I have the fundamental/ basics down of what it trying to be said - my imagination takes over looking at the possibilities of the words and the meaning of them

So no - I think its more complicated than how talented the actual reader is - If you dont really understand what is trying to be said no matter how its imparted to you - you wont get it

If you are really interested in this sort of stuff in depth - have a look up of the subject archaeology of knowledge - its eye opening on so many levels- a dry subject because academics are often up them selves - but there are videos on youtube

    LOL! Another fan!

Epically made movie - but be warned and keep an open mind - its based on how he got thrown out of heaven - so its pre him meeting the priest, pigsy and sandy - so they dont show up in this version- I hope they make a part 2 for them tho
