Whilst I'm not an anti-vaxxer, I would just like to point out my girlfriend just had a friend pass away from the flu directly after getting the flu shot not even a week before, this was not in Australia however. It's my opinion that with the flu shot specifically one can avoid the flu with a healthy diet and/or taking the right supplements.. I say supplements because I am currently taking a range of different 'supplements' you could call it maybe to treat my PTSD, directed by a naturopath ofcourse, but since being on this regime I have not been sick once.

Also anybody dealing with mental conditions I strongly recommend trying a naturopath, after taking anti depressants and alprazolam (commonly known as Xanax) I decided that wasn't right for me, swapped to naturopath medicines and haven't felt better in years!

    Therein lies the problem.

    How do flu vaccines work?
Flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body about two weeks after vaccination.

That's from the CDC factsheet about flu vaccines: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/keyfacts.htm

Most sources will say two weeks though, if you look it up.

The vaccine just contains some inactive fragments of the virus, just enough for the immune system to recognise it as foreign and start making antibodies that can specifically target that virus. It's like a weaving pattern - once the immune system knows the pattern it can make more when it needs to. It takes some time to build the pattern into the antibodies though, there's a critical period where the immunity is not effective (hence the two weeks).

The viruses also mutate and change, which is why they need to make different types of vaccines every year. They can even change during the flu season so that the antibodies will only be partially effective by the end of it. Partially is still good though - it can decrease the amount of time you are sick for, which is a key feature if you want to reduce serious illness and fatalities.

Thanks for the info, as I stated I'm not an anti vaxxer, I personally just feel that something less clinical can be just as effective in some cases. vaccines do have a place and I beleive vaccines for which the 'no jab no play' laws are targeting are fair enough. But I wouldn't get a flu shot simply because I can avoid the flu by maintaining my immune system through diet/natural medicines (which I am taking for a seperate reason as stated before but they have been very effective in preventing cold/flu)
