What are you actually trying to say? One is better than the other because of a vulnerability and theoretical exploit?

Sounds a bit like Ford vs Holden

Retiring for the night, and this convo

And justa heads up that you want to make sure your AV is up to date, if it isnt and doesnt set the required registry key, you wont be offered the updates through windows update....Windows 10 already has the fix available, Windows 7/8 gets the update on the 9th...

    http://www.zdnet.com/article/windows...crosoft-patch/

Intel should have fixes around the 12th

Then theres probably bios updates down the track....as a longer term fix

    https://meltdownattack.com/

Which systems are affected by Meltdown?

Desktop, Laptop, and Cloud computers may be affected by Meltdown. More technically, every Intel processor which implements out-of-order execution is potentially affected, which is effectively every processor since 1995 (except Intel Itanium and Intel Atom before 2013). We successfully tested Meltdown on Intel processor generations released as early as 2011. Currently, we have only verified Meltdown on Intel processors. At the moment, it is unclear whether ARM and AMD processors are also affected by Meltdown.
Which systems are affected by Spectre?

Almost every system is affected by Spectre: Desktops, Laptops, Cloud Servers, as well as Smartphones. More specifically, all modern processors capable of keeping many instructions in flight are potentially vulnerable. In particular, we have verified Spectre on Intel, AMD, and ARM processors.

Marketing, mostly. They got in early, so a lot of smartphone users are now "more comfortable" with Apple. They also do things like supply schools with Ipads and support, or at least they have done in the past. That's pretty clever - make sure the next generations of smartphone users are used to the Apple interface. In Queensland with the move to having students supply their own IT, some schools were specifying Ipads for primary schools (usually private schools). Even some high schools were specifying Ipads (They are primarily used to deliver content like text books and other material). I don't agree with only supplying content on one expensive platform - it disadvantages too many, so I think that even private schools that are going down this route are being stupid.

Australia is not completely Apple though. If you take all android phones as one alternative "set" to apple, there are still more Android phones except for one blip at the end of 2014. One of the strengths of Android is the diversity of hardware and price ranges.

When one of Mrs Fab's friends comes over and I take a photo on my Samsung, and then they pull out their Iphone and ask me to bluetooth a full res copy to them I always want to break down in hysterical laughter. It's amazing how many people don't know that Apple intentionally broke bluetooth data transfer years ago so that they wouldn't be able to talk to those pesky Android and PC devices. Apple never learn.
