    Is anyone still without NBN?

I still dont have access to NBN, still waiting. My ISP boosted me up to 500G/month bandwidth at no extra charge, but honestly I think it's a piss weak gift because I would never use up even a quarter of that with my speeds.

Maximum I ever get is about 950kb/s (~7MBs), and that's only very early in the morning.

Who is on NBN, and what are the speeds like?

    I've noticed the available tiers are;

    Basic (NBN 12) 12Mbps 7Mbps
    Standard (NBN 25) 25Mbps 15Mbps
    Standard Plus (NBN 50) 50Mbps 30Mbps
    Premium (NBN 100) 100Mbps 60Mbps

Are you getting what you pay for?

Also, what are your thoughts on Kevin Rudd's idea that NBN was hijacked by Murdoch/Foxtel? He's now calling for a Royal Commission.

But I see some people on twitter saying that they should have invested more in wireless 5G anyway. I like the idea of ditching all the wires. If wireless can provide speeds like NBN premium, I'd be all for it.

they don't start building here until this coming july

i'm getting fibre to the curb, which is apparently OK

my current adsl runs around 10 down [enough for my needs] 1 up [not enough]

hoping upload speeds improve with NBN

I dont have NBN and wont be getting it if or when it arrives...........

I see no reason to go from my current fibre network giving me the guaranteed 100mps at 1/2 the price of the NBN over to the liberals second rate crap network

Same here. We have it available but have not connected. Its is more expensive for less service and we don't have an issue with speed.

We have until september to do something so I am waiting for more non nbn options

You *never* get the theoretical speeds they tell you, unless that bit of fibre is underutilised. Having said that, I'm on standard and it's pretty close - Just shy of 23Mbps at the moment according to Ookla. Upload speed is 4.78Mbps. I've heard people complain about the service around here, but I think they must have been talking about broadband. If NBN has only just been put in here, that would explain why it's so good. As more people change over it will probably die. This is the fastest internet I've ever had, so I'm enjoying it for the moment.

I have no faith in 5G. 4G isn't that great unless you're right in line with a tower, because anything less than half strength signal and it works at dialup speeds, if it works at all. I doubt 5G is going to be much better once every kid in the neighborhood has a smart phone with 5G. When that was all I had (When the libs canned the NBN as soon as they got into power, delaying the roll-out by four years) I could set my watch to 3PM during the week when the internet became completely unresponsive. Little buggers, stealing my AVF...

Edit to add: as far as the motivations behind the Libs canning the NBN, we'll probably never know. They gave budget reasons for doing what they did (costing too much, costs blowing out blah blah blah) however it ended up costing them much more, so that was either excessively stupid, or if there was industry pressure brought to bear, excessively underhand. Just about what we've come to expect from our politicians in fact.
