Current FastTech exchange rate is $0.9314
Actual exchange rate (xe.com) is $0.7819 (for commercial customers, retail ie us can't get this rate)
PayPal exchange rate is $0.7511 (so they charge ~3c to convert AUD to USD)

FastTech always charge in USD, and are wildly inaccurate on exchange rates which are provided for "your convenience"

Ready Reckoner I use a guess of 1 1/2 times the price displayed as USD on FastTech as a quick and dirty method of approximating how much it works out to in AUD after paying by PayPal

    Code:
Paypal forex AUD to USD = 0.7511
    Price Guess	Actual
    $20.00	$30.00	$29.29
    $25.00	$37.50	$35.95
    $30.00	$45.00	$42.60
    $35.00	$52.50	$49.26
    $40.00	$60.00	$55.92
    $45.00	$67.50	$62.57
    $50.00	$75.00	$69.23
    $55.00	$82.50	$75.89
    $60.00	$90.00	$82.55
    $65.00	$97.50	$89.20
    $70.00	$105.00	$95.86
    $75.00	$112.50	$102.52
    $80.00	$120.00	$109.17
    $85.00	$127.50	$115.83
    $90.00	$135.00	$122.49
    $95.00	$142.50	$129.14
    $100.00	$150.00	$135.80

Price = as lised in USD on FastTech
    Guess = price x 1
Actual = price + $2 Expedited shipping then converted in AUD by PayPal

Wow... FT are even further off than I thought!

So where on earth are they pulling their data from then? Because I want to go there

My post still holds as to why any sites "view in your currency" will never be 100% accurate for everyone (and for big ticket items it's STILL worth doing the PP / Your Bank comparison manually - for example, it saved me about $30 on my last fountain pen purchase!) - but yeah, FT is above and beyond that.

Something extra fishy is going on with them... and actually, yeah, the more I think about it (and the lack of site changes over the years) the more I think it's a case of the "exchange rate" being hard coded into the site back in 2013 or something.
    These things.

    I have some things.
    I vape them.

i cant remember how i did it or if you can do it these days.
But there was an option in paypal to stop them from pulling aussie dollars then converting it into yank, it would just pull the USD straight from your bank instead.

depending on the worthiness of the banks sacrifice to cthulhu, the bank exchange rates might be better.

You change your primary currency to USD, and then PayPal pay the vendor in USD which is charged back to your bank account/credit card. The only problem when I've done this in the past, is my bank charged me a International Currency fee, and then charged me to convert to AUD ... so it cost me about $1 more than if I just let PayPal do the forex

I noticed that as well. At least they are showing the real postage rather than holding the items until you pay more.
