Sweet cream smells like off cream?

Was about to attempt mixing some OB Suicide Bunny, its a weirdly nice flavour, but I opened all my conc bottles enjoying the smells till I came to the TFA Sweet Cream,
It smells like off expired cream has anyone else got this and could possibly describe if it smells like ass also?
I know smell taste etc is subjective but this doesn't smell pleasant at all!

    thanks!

Mine smells a bit this way too. But you're right about taste/smell being subjective, for I as one, don't mind the smell of arse. Nah jk lol. It does seem to have the smell of slightly off cream, which seems to smell more off the longer the molecules linger in my olfactory passages.

I just checked my year plus old teeny, tiny bottle direct from the source.

Smells like over sugared whipped cream...

    At first.

Then smells a tad 'old' like Sublime mentions...

Butyric acid most likely. What gives butter it's smell, but in large quantities it stinks.

Hope it works, hope that helps.

    Stu.

What Schtoo said. Butanoic and butyic acid is the same thing. You can see TFA ingredients here Perfumer's Apprentice

It stinks, and is used in flavours to try and give the buttery, creamy note without using diacetyl. I reckon some people can smell/taste it more than others as to me it tastes exactly as you say and I can't go near it.

    From Wiki :

Due to its powerful odor, it has also been used as a fishing bait additive.[16] Many of the commercially available flavors used in carp (Cyprinus carpio) baits use butyric acid as their ester base; however, it is not clear whether fish are attracted by the butyric acid itself or the substances added to it. Butyric acid was, however, one of the few organic acids shown to be palatable for both tench and bitterling.[17]

The substance has also been used as a stink bomb by Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to disrupt Japanese whaling crews,[18] as well as by anti-abortion protesters to disrupt abortion clinics.[19]
