Meh you'll know when to change the battery as vape will become "thin and inconsistent" way before your battery is flat.
Using unprotected AWR and efests.haven't exploded in my hand or pocket.........yet
Oh and yes I do have a kick installed in a telescope neither of which is being used at the moment. Your point is ?

i have bought and sold a few kicks - they work fine, as advertised - but for me they arn't worth the compromise in either size or battery capacity

With mech mod you get a little power house. You can use low ohm attys and pulse your mod to make it deliver just the right amount of power. You change battery when the vape is weak, that happens around 3.5V but as you get used to your mod you'll just know it's time to change battery. In all mech mods are incredibly simple but incredibly versatile at the same time. For me anyway. If you just wanna try it on the cheap get China one for $20 and you won't lose much if it's not your thing. Some of the China ones are actually great.
