    Specs and Source for Drills suitable for SS

    Requirement;

    Twist drill, unless some other form is better
    3mm, and by preference a range of incremental sizes from 2mm to 4mm
    Suitable for drilling holes in 301 to 316 grades of stainless steel.
    Sufficiently hard wearing to work for more than one use.
    Available in Sydney, or reliable online suppliers

    Any other details I should add?

    Cobalt, preferably TiAlN coated, expensive (warning, you may want to sell a kidney) but they WILL last.

    Bordor "blue line" range is suitable for SS, but their sizing is a little sparse.
    And another edit... http://www.bordo.com.au/_productGrou...catGroupId=180

    Yep cobalt bits is what you need MrG, its the only type that will drill through SS, heat treated steel and 154cm plus many other types of steel (knifemaker here part time) they will last a decent amount of time, the coated Ti ones are very good but very expensive! I have bought some from Ebay, but i did get more from the US, as a lot of Knifemake'n pins etc come the States, so imperial sizes required.

    I have some larger cobalt bits for the SS inner and outer sleeves for my top loading updraft wood gasifying burners. Was mostly looking for a reputable source.
    Some good ideas here, thanks very much chaps.
