    First RDA build...Help please?

    Hey guys.

I'm just gonna rebuild my IGO-L clone as it came with a dual coil setup and its chewing through the batteries pretty quick and i don't feel i'm getting enough power into the coils...its a 1.6 ohm dual caoil that i'm running at 6volts on my SVD and it feels like (excuse a relative noob) that each of the coils is getting 3volts and not enough heat is being generated? throat hit is barely existant and i thought i'd try a single coil setup.

    the questions i have are:

1- after making the coil should i wash the silica?
2- do i need to let it dry or can i dry burn it and start dripping?
    3- I'm using 32g kanthal + 3mm silica, how many wraps should i do to get 1.5-2ohm's?
4- should i use 28g and do more wraps to get more coil on more silica surface area?
5- do i need to worry about hotspots with RDA's?
6- anything else a noob should know?

thanks in advance, i wasn't sure whether i should put this in the new vapers sub-forum, but figured this wasn't for new vapers...am happy to repost it there if i've put it in the wrong place.

I'm building with silica first before i move on to ss mesh (rba), cotton or micro coil setups.

I don't need squat for ages, i just went shopping.

Trial by flaming element!!! why does everybody hate me so? I"M FREAKIN OUT MAN....

ok that's a 4 wrap of 32g for 2.8ohm i can't SEE any hot spots...that is the shonkiest coil i've ever seen...but the silica looks neat...so i did that part right...now i'm gonna increase the volts and see how it looks...then vape the fucker...

thanks for the overwhelming showing of support...and to Dishy for the vid.

ok it started bouncing around ohm's wise so i figured i was shorting it or something...maybe one of the wires was touching on of the posts when i trimmed the kanthal....was showing 6 ohms for a bit but after a bit of jiggling, it's back down to 2.8ohms and test firing at 4v

ok now had a vape....flavour is fine....but the ohms keep bouncing around every time i take the cap off...but after firing it seems to settle down...any ideas?

keep at it, it becomes easier.
i shake quite a bit in the hands sometimes but even i manage to make a semi decent coil on the igo-l

Sam it sounds like the coil is getting pushed onto a post when you put the cap on, make sure you dont have excess wire coming off the back of the posts, also that the wick is not pushing on the coil onto a postwheen the cap goes on...

yeah i had to fiddle with it a bit. There was excess silica which was in the way and knocking the coil onto a post as i closed the cap.

with a little fiddling the cap is on (crammed with silica mind you) and it's sitting consistently on 2.7ohm running at 5v and seems to be ok...i just remove the drip tip to get at the silica and drip away (where as before i was removing the whole top cap...might stay away from that for the sake of my wee fragile coil)

ok so i *think* that is my first successful coil...YAY ME!!!! only mini clouds of vapour...i may want to turn up the heat though...

    lower the ohms a bit.
also bear in mind you wont get plumes of vapour due to the teeny weeny airhole (make sure this is lined up with the coil aswell)
my igo now has a 3mm airhole in it.

Yep as Brian says line up airhole to coil, make airhole bigger for bigger plumes, coil is a tad high, 1.5-1.8ohms will make a big difference, but for you first coil well done mate!
