    Kanthal Gauge and spool sizes?

    Gday Peeps

I am doing some research for a wood project.

Could peeps post the gauge sizes they use.

I am after spool dimensions also. Diameter and width.

I wanna see if the spools are a consistent size within vendors.

    Thanks for any help

    Bob

    I have 28 and 30g from VK
Spools are 70mm OD and 15mm wide....looks like the spindle hole is 9 mm

The item I wanna make will hold any number of spools I make it to.

Trying to find out how many spools would be optimum to suit most people.

    I am thinking 3 spools.

I bought 28g and 30g from VK and it is spooled onto a bobbin - the little reel that provides the second thread when using a sewing machine. I've just compared the bobbin my wire is on, to a bobbin from my sewing machine. It would seem that bobbins are not a standard size. By comparison, the diameter over all is roughly the same, as is the diameter of the hole in the middle. However the depth is quite different by a good 2mm, so you may want to allow for that possibility when designing

    Thanks Mathy

I am looking to do spools rather than bobbins.

I think bobbins will differ as Vendor just spool of onto whatever bobbin they can get there hands on.

So, you're meaning if you buy a full size amount of wire, not 100 feet taken off a spool?

yeh. If that is of a consistent size. It will be a "never endinding" supply.

What length is on that spool you got Laurie?

It's either that or I find my own spools to incorporate into my dispenser and people will have to spool their wire on to mine.

I think that might be the go. I can get 50 mm spools

Imagine a cube/rect box that dispenses wire and has cutter incorporated.

    JUst got some of these.
