So I built my first coil - not that great LOL

I bought a cheap RDA (an IGO-W4) and some A1 28/29 gauge kanthal just to try my hand for the first time
I did a double coil build with 8 wraps around a small screwdriver, with cotton for wick.
I was shooting for a 1.0 ohm resistance, and it ended up being... exactly 1.0 ohm, which was a huge surprise LOL
The coils don't look too pretty, but they burn evenly from the inside out without any hot spots (that I can see), and the whole thing generally seems to work as it should

the problem is, it vapes like shit... the airflow seems good (I have aligned the holes with the coils) and the vapor production is very rich.
but the flavour is gone, the vape is too hot and even the whole RDA is hot to the touch. I'm using it on a mech with an AW 18650 in it, not too fresh off the charger.
When I use the same RDA on a VW device and vape it at about 10 watts, I like it much better.
And when I use another atty with a 2.1 ohm resistance on the same mech I like it even more.

Am I doing sth wrong or is it possible that I simply don't like such low resistance?

Spyro, been where you are mate. Aim for 1.4 ohms (cotton wick). That's what I've got on my mod (18650 bat) in a kayfun clone. I tried a coil at .8 then another, and another etc until I hit that 1.4 and everything was great.

Too much cotton maybe. Also pull all the cotton out, fire it and when you release the button, squeeze the coils together to make a proper contact coil. Like arth says, concentrate on one first at 1.2ohm for a mech, whatever you want for vv/vw. Good luck

    Thanks Gresh
I bought those tweezers with the ceramic tips so I think I can squeeze while the coils are burning.
I'll experiment with less cotton too, maybe it just clogs up the whole thing.
    Take 2 tomorrow night.

    Thanks guys

the spacing of the coils is wrong either group them all together and burn them and tighten and burn again and tighten or space them so they aren't touching, also you have too much wick, one coil is almost covered, and where are you airholes located, they should be right where the wick is.
I think the height might be an issue.

What's your airhole size mate? Bigger the holes, the more vapor and less flavor unless you keep bumping up the power or lowering your ohms. It will be a warm vape with that setup.
