    "Authentic/Genuine" Mods?

Okay, I don't want to open up another can of worms here. I'm not bringing up clones vs authentics, or any of that nonsense.

There have been a couple of devices released (or to be released) recently. Those are:

    Colonial Mod by Mad Industries
    and
    Sage by Beyond Vape

Both of these are $100 or less mods. Why am I bringing this up?

Sage = Designed in USA, Manufactured in China, QC'd in USA
Colonial = Designed, Manufactured, QC'd in USA

Now the thing that I am wondering here is what constitutes an "Authentic" or "Genuine" mod?

Is it that it has been designed from scratch? Or isn't that enough? Does it need to be manufactured in a country other than China?

I'm guessing this is more of "IMO" topic, but I'm just curious because people who say that authentics are too expensive, well here we have 2 that are $100 or less and have a unique, non-generic china mod look. That's on par with some clones.

Like I said, I don't want people to come in and argue over pointless sh!t, I'm just genuinely (no pun intended) interested in whether one could call a mod such as the "Sage" an "Authentic/Genuine" mod. It's using an "original" design, but they have made it cheaper for us by getting it manufactured in China.

I think I'm rambling a bit here, so I'll finish this up now.
    Cheers

China has nothing to do with it.
    Original design = Original mod.

The Blue Tongue "Aussie Mod" is made in China.

Pretty well priced as well. The colonial would be nice in 18350.

    That's what I was thinking.

I was watching a review video for the Sage and the reviewer brought up the "China" thing in the video for the viewers.

I didn't personally think that something being "Made in China" would change the fact that something Original could be disregarded because of the way it was made.

Yeah that's not what I meant.

Blue Tongue is designed in Australia and Made in China.
It is undoubtedly an original mod.

    That's another really good example.

The reason I started this thread was because of the above linked video. He addressed the whole "China" thing, which in my opinion wasn't really necessary, sure say it was designed in the US and made in China, but it could have been left at that. My guess is that there are some people out in the vaping community that feel it something is made in China, it isn't a real authentic/genuine. Or at least that's what I get from the video.

I can understand that some Authentics that are manufactured in Greece/Germany/etc are going to be made better than one in China, and that is reflected in the cost of the device itself at a glance, and even more so when you are holding it in your hands. But I don't think I would go so far as to say that if its made in China, it's going to be a hunk of junk.

I guess there's some sort of moral/ethic thing for some people that makes them go "Oh, well it's made in China, I don't think I can support that, no matter how "Genuine/Authentic" the device is".

Ah okay, well that makes sense. I never really thought of it before that video, and it never got brought up here.

Well, either way, this thread has hopefully brought some cheap authentics to the attention of those who want to test out the waters before jumping straight into the high end.
