    What exactly is a "mod"?

Quite new to vaping. In one sense it seems like "mod" just means a battery. But nobody refers to an Ego battery as a mod? Is the iStick I've ordered a "mod"?

    Happy vaping.

Mod came from the term a modification. In the old days people used to make ecigs out of torches and stuff and modify them to be ecigs. Its a big battery or interchangable battery device. Egos are not mods nor a cigalikes. But most things could be called mods these days.

A six cell mag-lite torch would make a great mod.

Lol actually both are true !

Long long ago in the dim dark recess's of vaping .... Before ego's and CE4's there was the humble DSE-901 , A lowly little cigalike that had a very nice atomiser(and still is to this day) but it had a very poorly battery that was only 130 MA.... It was frustrating having to have 6 spare batteries to get you thru the day.... So early ingenious Vapers looked at ways to mate these nice atomisers to bigger battery cells... And indeed cheap 18350 or 18650 LED torch housings were found to be marvellous and thus we 'Modded' them by fitting 901 connectors to them and decent switches... Hence the term Mod.... My personal best was using one of the powdered chocolate containers that came with the Nescafe sachet cappuchino box :-) ... Worked a treat! Took an 18650 and thus I could now Vape longer than an hour at a time.

Over the years Mod came to represent any non-volume , not big business adaptation home grown e-cig.... But like most things over time it got bastardised by new users to represent anything other than a cigalike ... So in evolution , mod today pretty much equals PV

Goes back to rocking chair on porch..muttering 'kids today '...
