How to tell a clone from an original?

Not stirring shit and I am upfront not anti clone.

I am as is my nature genuinely curious and think options without force should be availiable.

So many mods are availiable nowadays from all over the world and some people do really only want to buy originals. Also along these lines I have heard it happens that sometimes some nasty individuals or vendors may occasionally sell clones as originals to up the price

So my genuine question is (please no smartarsery) is how can you tell if a mod is original or a clone?

Any genuine answers appreciated ahead of time

Is there a way to check if a mod is a clone or original?

I'd just ask here as you normally have a few who have owned that particular mod and know the differences. The difference from a clone to genuine differs from each mod. Threads, logo, logo placement, button cleaness, serial number, packaging box, vendor, price etc etc.

It's a good question, sometimes these days I imagine it could be quite difficult to tell a genuine from a really good clone. I think buying from a reputable vendor would be the best way, that and maybe checking with the original company whom they suggest to be your best local agent.

Sometimes the clones even come with identical OEM packaging and even authenticity cards/certificates/stickers etc these days.

there are always market forces driving industry. IMHO when the original and clone are made in the same Chinese sweat shop, the clones may be the ones that didn't pass on the quality control, there are probably businesses that clone packaging and authenticity papers as well. Everyone buys good and bad gear, that is what the reviews and comments sections are for ...

I think you might have missed the point tho. The OP is asking how to tell the difference in the case of someone possibly selling a clone as an original.
Possibly in some cases the clones could be the genuine 'rejects' but I'm yet to see any proof of that and most of the modders / manufacturers I'm aware of wouldn't have a bar of anything like that.

One way would be to search for your serial number. Check with the mod maker, and with other owners through the forums if necessary. If one or more people own the same serial number, or your number is outside the modder's range...
