Coil Limits on wattages used by an idiot

    Hi All
I was screwing around with the RX Mini which usually has a Protank 4 resting proudly upon its 510 connector,
I mistakenly bought a Melo 3 MIni(meant to get a 300 duhhhh) and put it on the RX dropped wattage to 40w and tooka vape and juicy fruit gum flavour came thru powerfully and I was like oh wow then it stopped,
I think I killed the coil, I haven't pulled it apart yet as its full of juice, but I'm guessing I killed the coil,
My question, finally, is how do you determine what the max rating of a coil is? I couldn't find any data on the box or the destruction manual,
Is there a rule of thumb before I go killing more coils?

    thanks guys/gals

The OEM coils seem to have a 'serving suggestion' written on the side of them. Just a random one I looked at said "30-100W".

Open up the top, take out a little liquid, close it back up and flip it over and pull the bottom off and check the coil.

I don't think 40W should have hurt the coil...

    Morning Sully...!

The wattage rating is etched onto the side of the coil, it's very small print so ya might need a good light and god eyes lol

Some manufacturers give a range they recommend but even then it's best to start off low and work your way up until it's right. Adjust to taste.

With experience you get to know when it's right for you. There's several indicators - sound (crackle crackle), flavour, temperature of the vapour, and of course flavour. If it tasted OK then it's unlikely that it was too hot.

The Melo III is a great flavour tank. I had leaking problems with the factory coil and the RBA factory build on 60/40 PG/VG so I set it aside and haven't gone back to it, but will probably see what I can do with the RBA, when I can be bothered.

by god they make that writing small!!
Even with glasses on I couldn't read it! LOL, mag glass I pulled apart the tank etc and the installed coil says, .15 30-100W I didn't want to open it with coiland juice but meh I'm learning,
What made me think it was a dead coil the RXMini was saying no atomiser attached?
Since taking it all apart cleaning it, I screwed the coil in, and now its reading the ohms at .53
    Bad connection maybe?

thanks for the replies really appreciate it!

Assuming you are using one of the EC coils supplied with the tank 40 watts is fine to use.

If you are getting no vapor at all, and you didnt burn out the coil which you would know about from the taste, it is more likely a connection problem on the melo 3 itself. A few times I have found the coils have manage to unscrew themselves from the base slightly and any movement breaks the connection, just make sure you screw the coil in tight and it will stop this.
Also the centre part of the 510 have a tendency to move if you screw it onto your mod to tight or just from dropping it as they are only pressed in place this is also easy to fix just gently push it back out a small amount from the inside, where the coil hits it, then simply screw the base back on the mod to reset it to the right place

The no atomiser warning means it is definitely one of the 2 fixes I said above

Its worth remembering the 510 movement part in case you try changing mods and get no atomiser message it happens a lot the floating centre pin can be annoying at times

... Aaaaand another problem with the Melo coils is the o-ring on the bottom of the head, just above the threads. Some coils have a slightly thicker o-ring there which somehow stops the head from screwing all the way down. Not sure what happened, but someone seems to have got confused about the tolerances somewhere along the line...
