I don't understand, what is your desired outcome? If you are trying to get 0.5ohms with the wire you have there, you are better off using dual coils. Also not that I think it changed much, but you really never need to change the leg length.

Edit: If you need a single coil because of the atty you are using, then I would use a different wire, a 24g or 22 even.

... or twist the wire if that's what you need...

Four wraps of 26g kanthal will give you a 0.5 Ohm coil exactly what you asked for so you did it perfectly, well done:-)
As Whisp said if you want a longer coil then go down to 24g or 22g.

I've never even looked at that, doesn't seem to be something I need. Adjust to taste, and use the watt range you know works well that device.

You're over thinking it and letting some engineers wet dream confuse you.

Because it's a really small coil?

And the setting on that heat flux is 200mw/mm2. Crank that up, the wattage will go up. I don't know if it'll make for a good setup though...

SS or nichrome in the same gauge could beef it up too, being lower resistance than kanthal

I'm so glad you left yourself so wide open with this question Saph, so that I may learn too. Thank you.
