Help please I'm confusing myself with TMI again...

So now I am getting a better idea of the type of vaping I'm aiming for which seems to be at the border of MTL and DL (would that be 1 ohm?), and very slowly but surely (YAY) getting my head around electricity, its terminology (and their meanings) leading to my understanding of Ohm's law, I am starting to look into wires.

I know that I can change settings with the size, thickness and number of wraps of coils, and I have a very loose understanding of the different types of coil materials.

So I started off with what I believe is a commonly used wire: Kanthal 26 gauge but feel I would like to try some coils with a bit more thickness.

My aim is to vape at between 30-40 watts, starting with a single coil. I am also aiming for flavour over clouds. I mostly use 30/70 VG/PG and haven't started exploring temperature control vaping yet.

(I think my micro coils looked pretty silly in the Troll, and feel like I created a hard learn-to-wick starting point for myself, so I guess I am aiming for something more like the thickness and diameter of the premade Kangerbox coils, though I have learned they are designed specially for the 60W output of the box, today).

Given all of that, my question is, what gauge/type of wire might work best for what I am aiming for? Many thanks...

    -Thick wire is slower heating.
-The lower the AWG number, the thicker the wire, and more power getting through [less resistance]
-Ramp up will be quicker with thick wire with SS430 followed by SS316, and Nichrome than it is with kanthal.
-Long term smokers often have nickel sensitivity, so nichrome [20% Ni] and SS316 [10% Ni] might not be suitable for you.

THANK YOU soooo much Doggie. I even understand resistance now!

I only ask questions after I have done a lot of searching and thinking, but I'm sure you realise how much time and effort you have saved me with just those four lines.

I am going to try both SS430 as per your advice. Joy and happiness!

Where do you get SS430 from? I have some SS316 but haven't seen SS430 around.

Slightly OT - Doggie, can you tell us why kanthal is (or was) the 'default' coiling wire? I had never heard of kanthal before I started Vaping.

just google it, up until recently, vapers were getting it from florists and jewelers, but crazy wire co UK and a few other vaping vendors stock it now

nichrome was default before kanthal, i started vaping around the time kanthal took off. I don't remember there being much behind the shift, aside from lots of vapers finding it less metallic tasting [which is subjective]

You should try gold Cat, buy yourself 130mm of 34 awg and make it 4mm ID at 8 wraps for 0.2 ohms, jewellers sell it, the round stuff. Be nice in your Nano !!

It isn't needed for most. Just if you are sensitive to nickel.

I find SS in general metallic. I'm yet to isolate the metal that does that for me, but since kanthal does, which is FeCrAl, guessing it is the iron, since I'm ok with nichrome

That sounds really lush Emu. Since I am poor, for interest's sake I am going to ask how much something like that would set me back.

Also, I am aiming at moving away from sub ohming to the centrepoint between MTL DL so 0.2 ohms would not be that right? Serious question, would like to know if theoretically 1 ohm would be that centrepoint.
