Will I need any protection for a VAMO?

I'm thinking about buying a VAMO VW for my brother.

From my understanding, the VAMO doesn't have all the safety features of a Provari. Will I need anything, or any special safer batteries to give him some proper protection? Last thing I want is thing shorting out or exploding.

I wont be using stacked batteries. Only a single 18650.

    For example,

Which is safer to use, the AW IMR or the Efest Protected Battery?

Use the batteries recommended with the device ( protected or unprotected) but I'd be upgrading to good quality batts like Panasonics or Sanyo's, rather than the cheapo ones that come with it.
SS600 has good quality batts on ebay.
He will also be able to tell you which is best for the vamo if you PM him

whats the understanding about safety features ?

one thing I would do is concentrate solely on nipple tops, though it will work with flat tops it relys on the top insulator being intact so it does not short the battery out across the case .. this makes me nervous. apart from that, I am using imr 2000 currently.

any of these electronic type mods are simply going to melt and blow tracks long before the battery is stressed current wise in the case of a catastrophic short on the PCB. I would not be concerned about that .. the mod has a very light spring for an 18650 mod, this will heat up and fail before the battery cooks itself.

The only areas I would be concerned about vamo wise, do not use 18350 in at all, unless you need more than 12W its not needed and by avoiding it I reckon its 100 times safer.
Check out the top insulator each time if you are using flat tops at all .. apart from that, any battery that fits should do the job imo.

Stoney do you mean 2 x 18350 stacked?
    1 x 18350 will be ok?

yeh sorry, i meant stacked ..

i would consider one 18350 is still somewhat more dangerous than an 18650 though, off the top of my head estimation .. 3 to 10 times more likely to have an issue.

I was thinking of using one 18350, but 18650's barely last me
So I'll just stick with 18650's hehe
