Australia leading the war on tobacco

Roxon to get a special award from the WHO

    http://www.abc.net.au/unleashed/2732044.html

If we are leading the war, then why the **** arent we looking at E-Cigs and why the **** is roxon getting an award for implementing a stupid brown box !

Why are we outright ignoring the benefits of a promising new NRT device to get smokers off tobacco smoke and burying our heads in a big brown box while congratulating ourselves on being pro-active in the "war on tobacco" by dressing it up in drab pants !

It just goes to show that politicians and health bodies have their heads stuffed so far up their assess that they can pat themselves on the back with each others tongues.

    shit pisses me off.

Blah blah blah, bloody media hype again. Quote very big numbers which are pretty much fudged anyway. And nothing about vaping despite it being known to be far less harmful than smoking and possibly some of the other NRT's available as well......

Collecting those gongs are just the sort of meaningless crap that Politicians revel in.
Doing something for us comes way down the list-its all about image and appearances so far as theyre concerned-not substance.
They live in their own little world not the real one.

I've just sent the following through to Lateline. Probably a waste of time, but had to be done...

I find it fascinating and quite disturbing that our Health Minister is willing so say that:
    1. It will cost taxpayers in a legal fight but our government is prepared to spend that money regardless of the legal position.
    2. They are commited to reducing smoking rates
    3. Listening to the hard science on smoking while not so much on the effictiveness of the plain packaging proposal.

And all while ignoring the scientifically proven health benefits of smokers switching to smokeless tobacco products like Swedish Snus and E-Cigarettes. Snus has been shown to be almost as "healthy" as quitting completely, e-cigs are safer than that again. Yet all we here is "Tobacco is evil, can't trust big tobacco."

Sweden has the lowest smoking related deaths in the EU thanks to wide spread use of snus, while the product is illegal in to sell in Australia and taxed so heavily that it's not worth importing.

E-Cigs seem to be an almost "holy grail" for longterm smokers with mountains of anecdotal evidence showing it's effectiveness (and a slowly growing amount of clinical evidence), yet again, Ms Roxon is fighting to make the personal importation of the nicotine juice used in them also illegal.

She stands up and says "we want to improve the health of Australian smokers" but then doesn't even consider alternatives that are proven to work!

    Great letter soundasleep.

    How about a PS-
    such as......

" So far as many people in the electorate are concerned Nicola Roxon is just an overweight party hack who has no credibility whatsoever in this (or any) area of health -she very obviously has not been inclined to move her fat backside to learn anything about E Cigs.
" We would also be interested to know how much money Big Pharma and Big Tobacco have donated to the ALP this year to date."
