    Fairfax article

The safety of smoking substitutes remains hazy, as does Big Tobacco's motives, writes Melissa Davey.

OK, but not great. The same myths trotted out again and again, like "Think of the children!" and "Dual use". At least they admit they are far safer than analogs. But the idea that they are a disruptive technology, a game changer, something with enormous public health benefits far in excess of all the lame public health efforts up till now, is not really stated. Overall probably more positive than negative though.

Am so over stories that promote the idea that ecigs have been made popular by tobacco companies

We need to promote Hon Lik more. Make it known that the ecig was invented by a chemist who's father died of lung cancer.

Big Tobacco are stealing the show. We should nip this at the bud before they start trying to take full credit for it.

Rather a stupid remark in the last but one para:

"And we know that the majority of successful quitters are able to do so completely unaided."

It is the unsuccessful quitters (the huge majority) we should be concerned about.

Because the more BT are seen to be involved, the more excuses like "dual use" and "tobacco gateway" will be thrown at e-cigs. And once that shit is thrown at them, it will stick.

Hmm. One of the more positive articles, for sure. I'd love to see more about apparatus beyond "Battery-powered cigarette lookalikes...", though. I was also heartened somewhat by the cynical view towards Big Tobacco.
