Big Pharma and the nicotine wars

Health experts who recommended that the Government tighten the regulation of electronic cigarettes failed to declare their financial interests in Big Pharma’s rival products.

... At the meetings held at the MHRA’s London headquarters in May 2011 and January this year, the chairman asked the expert panel to declare any interests. Minutes of the meeting in 2011 obtained by The Times under the Freedom of Information Act show that “no interests were declared by members”. However, some members of the panel worked as consultants for big pharmaceuticals companies and advised on nicotine.

We are living through 'The Information Revolution" and the sheeple are becoming much better informed.

Governments will just have to adapt to this new reality.

    An interesting development ........................

In particlar, severeal of these experts have strong links to the pharmaceutical industry, either in consulting positions or as shareholders: All concerning smoking cessation products.

So, the following comment was posted by the username "MHRA" this morning, and signed by Dr. Ian Hudson. By 3.30pm, it no longer appeared on the site. Commenters on the Times website are able to delete comments they've posted, although it could easily have been the Times which removed the comment:

Times article - curious MHRA comment and subsequent deletion
