Royal College of Physicians (UK) Says ecigs should stay on market

"... [I]t is now clearly established that NRT is effective, it should not be necessary to demonstrate cessation efficacy for new NRT formulations. Doing so would simply perpetuate the current market dominance, high prices, and poor product profile of the established major producers," said the RCP in a letter addressed to the United Kingdom's Medicines and Health Regulation Authority.

    It's an interesting ad!

A misleading headline and two small quotes, that don't even mention ecigs in particular, mixed amongst some pro propaganda. Looks like a risky way to get affiliate links clicked to me and has about as much credibility as the anti-smoking lobby.
    Cheers.... Pete.

This "press release" exists elsewhere as well.. so it does seem legitimate.

It's a quote from a letter from the Royal College to the UK' Medicines and Health Regulation Authority - here's a link to a scan of the letter:
    http://www.mhra.gov.uk/home/groups/e.../con102944.pdf

British Medical Association has a similar letter:
    http://www.mhra.gov.uk/home/groups/e.../con102946.pdf

    The letter is in response to public consultation on NRT's (I gather it's our equivalent of invitation to comment on submissions before the TGA) - here's it's page with links to more docs, including more at the bottom of the page;
    http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Publications/...MLXs/CON065617

and MHRA's position statement on Drug safety/Harm reduction for NRT
    http://www.mhra.gov.uk/Safetyinforma...date/CON087732

I've got a copy of the Royal Colleges harm reduction report, but it's hiding atm - will try and dig it out later. sorry, don't have time to do more atm

    Some excellent links thanks vapidkitty.

Particularly the public consultation one. It's interesting to see who's in the "Yes to option 1 – regulate and remove from the market within 21 days" camp!

My cynicism is feeling a little healthier now.
    Cheers.... Pete.

Pretty much anyone funded by big pharma, and a large slab of the anti-smoking "industry" who see their empires and careers under threat.

There's nothing the average smoking nazi fears more than everyone giving up smoking....
