Some potential goods news from the new government

The whole article is here - No Cookies | Herald Sun

But the bit that concerns us is this...

The Coalition will also begin unwinding key "nanny state'' agencies such as the Australian National Preventative Health Agency, established to lead the national fight against obesity, alcohol abuse and tobacco use.

Health Minister Peter Dutton has been critical of ANPHA's decision to spend $500,000 on a study into a potential "fat tax" despite neither side of politics supporting such a move.

I totally agree. Much better to sit on your hands and deal with an epidemic than to study issues and stop them prior to them becoming multi-billion dollar issues down the road.

as for the "fat tax" i think it's a good thing that neither side supports something for which the facts are not yet known. that doesn't mean we shouldn't find out what those facts are.

My point was that it has been tried else where and failed so some knowledge on whether it works is out there and that it is not a new concept. Although we would not have the issue with people jumping the border to buy their junk food but I do think we would probably face similar administrative issues Denmark did.
