    QuitLine Vic complaint

    Interesting.
I called and asked for a review and response. Also asked for relevant legislation to back up their page.

"Quit believes this research needs to be carried out and then assessed by a relevant government authority in the same way as other substances, such as nicotine replacement therapy, are assessed."

so their stance is that it is a pharmaceutical.... surprise surprise

Probably nothing, because there is no such legislation. The research that proves that vaping is far safer than smoking does exist, they just don't want to see.

It's pretty sad that the Vic quitline is steering people away from the one thing that is likely to be the most successful. We all know they'd double their quit rate figures if they told people to skip the cigalikes and go straight to a decent device with nicotine, and told them how to do it.

I'm not one to poke that sleeping bear; the longer it takes them to realise what is really going on the more ex-smokers, vapers, and industry owners/workers there will be to make sure common sense prevails.

They called me back, went to voicemail as I was in a meeting. I'll let you know the outcome shortly. I've asked for the page to be removed. Could someone screen dump it in the meantime as I'm on my phone.

The way I read it, it comes back to the regulations relating to the commercial sale of nicotine.

The rest of it is the usual "we don't know and we'll cover our behinds" approach to mitigate insurance, litigation and other risks. Nothing new in that, these days.
