Editors Choice - BMJ - Helping Doctors make better choices

Hold the line against tobacco | BMJ

I'm speechless, a journal that is supposed to be by doctors, for doctors, for patients. Their "about us" quotes
We advance healthcare worldwide by sharing knowledge and expertise to improve experiences, outcomes and value.

    quote from the editorial
"With figures from the World Health Organization showing an increase in the number of young smokers, now is the time to tighten tobacco controls. The authors conclude that e-cigarettes should be regulated not as medicines but as tobacco products, and that the tobacco industry should be excluded from the policy making arena.

I feel I'm starting to wonder if Elvis is still alive. My conspiracy theory radar is Jailhouse Rocking all over the shop.

    narrow mindedness at its best.

Gaffer Tape is like The Force - it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together

Arrogance brought about by believing everything they learnt and the way they learnt it is the best and only way without exception.
This it what makes it very hard to find a good doctor, specialist, etc. I guess it's the same for everyone when thing go very wrong

Based on my experience with my doctor, and experiences posted here by others, I'd have to disagree. Medical Journals are only talking the 'professional' opinion (and that might be a funded opinion). Doctors at the coal face are far more pragmatic about things imho

I've only spoken to a couple of doctors about e-cigs, neither of whom actually knew much about them but they were both open to learning more and thought they were better than smoking.

This is exactly as we expected. Exactly.

Redefine e-cigarettes as part of the tobacco industry, and then exclude the entire industry from both the scientific and political arena. It is corrupt and morally disgusting.

See this thread: British Medical Journal Will no longer accept papers from Tobacco Industry

Particularly what I wrote here in October: British Medical Journal Will no longer accept papers from Tobacco Industry

And HERE IT IS, Greg Conley pushing the editor-in-cheif of BMJ to answer the question as to whether ecigs constitute "tobacco", and BMJ childlishly beating arounf the bush to avoid answering the question.

Never thought I would say it. It seems that a webmd site has at least done some research on ecigs. Not 100% perfect but much better than the OP's position.

    E-Cigarettes: Separating Fiction From Fact

I reckon on this information I'd be giving ecigs a go.
