    More good stuff

A letter signed by more than 50 researchers and public health specialists is urging the World Health Organization (WHO) to "resist the urge to control and suppress e-cigarettes".

The letter says the devices - which deliver nicotine in a vapour - could be a "significant health innovation".

That's great, but it shits me that the BBC's NEWS Health article ends in.....
"While the signatories to this letter are clearly supportive, the World Health Organization, correctly, bases its decisions on the best available evidence. Is it?
"It has commissioned an extremely comprehensive independent report, subsequently published in summary form in the prestigious academic journal Circulation, that urges great caution, questioning just how safe these products are and raising serious concerns about how their marketing may undermine the substantial progress that has been made with tobacco control in recent decades - a view supported by a recent report from the US Senate.

"Until these issues are resolved, it would be premature to encourage their wider use."

It's like, one step forward and disheartening two step back, just not a very nice way to end an article based on an Open letter to the WHO by more than 50 researchers and public health specialists.

So they need to resolve the issues. This has been on the table for many moons and its about time they threw some of our money at the problem. There was no shortage of cash spent over the years proving how bad tobacco was. Spend some to prove to your satisfaction the pro's and cons's of vaping and stop whinging that we just dont know.

Just an addition to this. The ABC world news have a Segway in this with our good friend SC who it was noted did not sign the support doc. I was quite surprised to hear that his com back was about dual use. This is the first time I have not hear the words "we don't know what's in them" or "what about the gateway to smoking for kids"

Maybe the corner has been turned and these statements are being explained away with research and testing method.

It started off good, but then deteriorated with Martin Mckee using all sorts of logical fallacies, referencing a paper by Stan Glantz which contained a shitload more logical fallacies.

What really bothers me is that the entire issue about how to regulate e-cigarettes is actually a no brainer. But people, sometimes on both sides of the debate, are unwilling to compromise to make it work.

Wait until Dr Farsalinos has published the results of his testing, the ANTZ will have a field day with it.
