Another Quit or Die Article - The Conversation

Health risks of nicotine cast doubt on 'safer' e-cigarette

"There is no evidence e-cigarettes help smokers quit. Nor are they harmless; even without the smoke, nicotine poses a number of health risks.

E-cigarettes should not be sold in Australia, either as a therapy or a consumer product."

Edit: Sorry for the typo in the subject line. Could a moderator fix it please?

I feel overcome with the idiots on that link... screw democracy, the majority of people are stupid. We need a benevolent dictatorship.

Na, they want it as a tobacco product and taxed accordingly so the Public Health Purse for Tobacco Control grows and these nutters get even more money to support us by telling us to Quit or Die.

According to an ethicist from Edith Cowan University

"The e-cigarette is nothing more than a deceptive and manipulative marketing campaign by the tobacco industry."

I can't believe these people claim to be educated...

That view is no doubt widespread, even among people with an ethical obligation to inform themselves on an issue before speaking publicly about it. It's terribly lazy, reactionary thinking.

i choose not to read these posts - most of the time they are repeated clickbait anyway.
even if they are not all they do is make me feel a bit angry at peoples stupidity.

I was thinking though of a letter that we could all send (individually by snailmail) to the Cancer Council of Australia.
Something like 'smoker for 20 years, now I dont touch cigarettes, vaping is safer and im an adult so dont try to ban something just because you dont like it'.. etc.

Yet another ridiculous article but I did love a couple of replies.

I find it ironic that while the standard line of "there is no evidence that it helps people quit" is met with a chorus of people who have actually managed to quit.

Ok then, here's my (personal and totally anecdotal) research.

Fact 1. I have quit cigarettes with the help of e-cigarettes after 40 years of smoking 30 cigs a day. Fact 2. I am no longer coughing in the mornings.Fact 3. I did not gain weight. Fact 4. My sense of smell and taste have improved 10-fold. Fact 5. I'm $500 a month better off. Fact 6. My house, car & clothes do not smell like an ashtray any longer.

Well we need scientists to observe you quitting, otherwise it is anecdotal. Apparently.
