I was just mulling over some of the numbers, and found it surprising that Australia has 8 names while the US has only 17 (slightly over double, but with around 15 times the population) and China (where AFAIK they were invented) has ..0!

Yes, it really is a case of being brave for most Med Prof's. Considering we have some of the great names within the AU Med profession we should be really proud. Alex Wodak and Colin Mendelsohn (sp) signing up along with others should make us truly grateful for the support that SOME medical professionals give us.

A doctor I see didn't have a problem at all with me vaping. I'll give the context.

I was seeing him after about 2 months of being on champix, and had finally gotten good vape gear and started doing it properly, as I had failed before with champix and this time around didn't quite feel right with the meds. He asked me how I was going with staying off the smokes, and I told him "Good, haven't had a smoke, but am using an e-cigarette though..". He was very unfazed and didn't even show a change in expression, and simply said something along the lines of "...as long as your not smoking, that's all that matters"

It wouldn't surprise me if many doctors recognise the benefit of ecigs as an alternative to smoking, really should ask them a bit more about it and see what the different responses I get (I often don't see my regular GP unless its really important, as hes so busy, so just see whoever when going in for regular stuff)

There are more than 250 signatories worldwide but only 8 from Australia. Would be great to get some more Doctors/Scientists/Nurses/Health care professionals signed on.

There must be a few nurses among us?

    These are the Aussies....

ATTILA DANKO ∗ Family Medicine ∗ Ballarat Australia
DAVID MULLEN ∗ Dialysis Nurse ∗ Cooloongup Australia
JON CLAPTON ∗ Gp ∗ East Devonport Australia
ROY TAYLOR ∗Otolaryngology ∗ Melbourne Australia
JAMES REID ∗ Mental Health ∗ Perth Australia
DR COLIN MENDELSOHN ∗Tobacco Treatment Specialist ∗ Sydney Australia
EWA HUEBNER ∗ Computer Science ∗ Sydney Australia
ALEX WODAK AM ∗ Alcohol And Drugs ∗ Sydney Australia

Here is the manifesto where Medical Professionals sign on

Does it have to be medical professionals Davi? Can it be a community services professional, counsellor or non-medical mental health worker?

    No not restricted to medical.

Yes, absolutely Jen, there are many mental health/community workers and professionals that have signed on and are welcomed with open arms. Anyone working in Public Health directly with patients is a great asset.

Hey Slayer , i was lucky enough to get that same support from my GP. She did get the Quit counsellors in to have a look as they hadnt seen anything like it before, but they were not quite so supportive and were pressing me for a time frame i would be using it before giving it away. I told them as long as i wasnt smoking i really didnt care, as i had already tried and failed so many times with the other methods they could provide, and had been suprised myself that i could give the smokes away once i had my set up.
