    Airbourne porcine incoming

    E-cigarettes 'should be prescribed'

ANTZ must be on the phone right now investigating how this slipped through the Australian media blockade.

Wow, that is the first blatantly pro ecig article I've seen in mainstream Aussie media.

While overall it appears positive, isn't this just a push for regulation as a medicine?

"UK government health officials want GPs to be able to prescribe e-cigarettes ...

GPs and stop smoking services are not able to prescribe or recommend e-cigarettes, as none of the products on the market are licensed for medicinal purposes.

    ... "

True, it could be a big pharma plot.

They are really going to struggle to pull it off though.

Oh Simon Chapstick was on the warpath when this came out. He was busily hosing it down on ABC to make sure Australian politicians are convinced that Australia is somehow special in its war against smokers, and doesn't need any fancy UK science.

I don't think most people need health system ecigarettes. Really I found it way more affordable than smoking, so it's a no brainer for me. However they would be useful for certain mentally ill people who have trouble managing their finances and really can't afford to smoke, but don't have the technology or research skills to set themselves up in vaping. I have a relative who is in care and he's alloted a small number of cigarettes a day by his carers because essentially he would just smoke all day if he could afford it. An ecigarette provided by the care givers would be a huge benefit for him.

Yeah, reading is hard for some, especially if there are big words.
