It was very good. Although Moseley's little experiments tend to be small cohort, they often still present good points.

Overall it drove home the points we all know:

    1. that ecigs are way safer than smoking, that it's by far mostly smokers that use them, and that they have little appeal to non smokers
    2. that nicotine is not very addictive (he tried to puff at the levels a smoker would and found it boring and tedious, and wasn't in any way addicted at the end of his trial)
    3. that ecigs and pharma NRT have similar short term success in people who want to quit, but ecigs have options, mimickry and broad appeal that make people want to use them, unlike patches and gums
    4. that switching to ecigs, NRT or otherwise giving up cold turkey has immediate health benefits (very similar across all methods)
    5. passive vaping is insignificant compared to passive smoking. Only a small fraction of vaped nicotine is present in ambient air, unlike tobacco

Things that were a bit unclear:

    1. certain flavours wafted over cells in vitro caused cell death, in this case menthol (I think about 70% cell death). They didn't consider that some vapers don't really lung inhale. They didn't consider whether invitro experiments are really suitable. They recommended however, that vapers switch around flavours to avoid getting overexposed to any particular flavour
    2. vaping had a slight impeding effect on lung power in the short term, long term effects unknown. An increase in cell macrophages were found in lungs, suggesting an immune response reaction
    3. that nicotine has little benefit to healthy people (they implied that nic users see benefits in reaction times because it cuts unpleasant withdrawal sensations and lets them concentrate. But they didn't consider that nicotine might affect some people positively whereas others get no effect)

It did make me wonder, if ecigs are only ever going to appeal to smokers, and as the smoking rate in developed countries drops rapidly, are the days numbered for vaping because there won't be many smokers looking for an alternative? Have we already seen peak vaping in some countries?

When there are no more smokers, it will be because a lot of them are still vaping. Eventually the vapers will go away too, but I expect that will take decades. It might depend on what they eventually find out about the long term affects of vaping.

You probably won't get rid of tobacco and vaping completely until countries that have made vaping illegal wake up and change their tune. (Looking at Singapore, Argentina, Brazil, Cambodia, Jordan, Omar, Qatar, Taiwan etc etc.)
