Homeland Security has questions for the FDA.

Saw this on another forum recently.

Senator Ron Johnson, who is the chairman of Homeland Security in the US, is asking questions about the upcoming FDA regulations and the effects they may have on peoples health and small business etc.
Some may think that it's not something that concerns us but if the FDA gets their way it's possible that our own Government might get some ideas.

    Some of his questions...

"How is the FDA’s regulation of e-cigarettes not a premature restriction on an industry given the FDA’s admission that it does not have “sufficient data” about e-cigarettes to determine the effects on the public’s health?"

"Has the FDA considered the unintended consequences if decreased access to e-cigarettes leads to increased consumption of traditional cigarette and tobacco products? Please explain."

Here's the link to his letter to the FDA.

That's extremely interesting. It looks like Homeland security are getting ready to take a big stick to the FDA. I hope they have the authority.

I must admit it's a wave of rationality from an unexpected source.

Homeland Security trumps even the EPA, which have more power than the police in the US. Seems that the whole thing may not be as set in stone as big pharma and baccy would have liked.

They're really big hitters that normally only bother with international/border affairs.

It's seems like it to me. It wasn't a polite request, they have been given a deadline to reply. This could get crazy.

Are we sure it's legit? Seems a bit "too good to be true".

I hope it is... Anything that will slow or stop these idiots is a good thing.

It's also been reported on what appears to be the Homeland Security government website:

Oh yes! I hope this is for real.

I don't understand the hierarchy in America and who has the power to do what, but if these are the big boys coming out to play I am very happy about what they're saying.

    IKR...

It also occurs to me that this will lend some weight to the Nicopure and Lost Art lawsuits against the FDA as well.

    Let the tide roll...

FDA were prevented from regulating it as medical so they "thought" that meant vapers wanted it regulated under the tobacco legislation. Absolute stupidity. Probably the dumbest assertion I've ever seen.

Let's hope they take a big stick to the FDA. I'm in disbelief over how the FDA is behaving on this issue, and am really hoping some rational elements in the US system will take over.
