Confronting them with facts doesn't help because they don't want to know, it's fingers in ears while they scream nanana.
The zealots know that if they actually looked reality, read the research, listened to scientists, they would have to change their mind .. if they do then their game is up, some people would lose prestige and maybe even their job.

The Smoking Issue - an old article but a good article

Whatever your personal feelings about tobacco, it should be apparent to any thinking person that something has gotten way out of hand here. If nothing else, itís ripe for some major sociological study.

This was brilliant! Thanks lynne for this.

Just to add a couple of my thoughts to it though.... I've lived in an industrial town (city) for a long time now. Living through BHP and their pollution and coal mining and their pollution. When BHP closed you could actually see the horizon with only a faint haze. Then they increased the coal exports and now the haze is almost as bad as it was with BHP. Many sulphide companies have also closed here in recent years too, but what I see on the roof tops here and in almost any other town in recent years is black soot. Now where could that come from? Does it by any chance have anything to do with diesel fuel as well as coal dust? Particularly since diesel buses, cars and trucks have expanded in our cities. Now have a look at the roof tops in your city if you don't have coal or BHP and ask yourself the same questions. Hmmm...I have to wonder if that is not the cause of the exponential diseases that have been noted as 'smoking diseases' since the industrial era especially since they both grew around the same time. I'm quite sure it's not due to cigarette smoke and won't be because of vaping, but I bet it will continue on even new houses built. Food for thought I guess. Who's hood winking whom?

PMSL what people will do for a stinkey. Mind you a friend of mine had an attempted mugging in Tamworth some time ago for a stinky. The mugger did not have a chance as my friend is ex army and I feel sorry for the poor dude that tried to mug him.
