More Americans addicted to nicotine than any other drug

Some cherry picking from the research.

    Is nicotine addictive or not?

There is currently no evidence that it is dependence-forming unless/until it is delivered in tobacco, and especially in cigarette smoke, which is presumed to cause some sort of chemical change in the brain. After smoking tobacco, especially in cigarettes, people may become addicted to smoking and dependent on nicotine.Jun 27, 2013

Salibu claimed that ecigs could in fact be more addictive than tobacco cigarettes because the “free-base” nicotine is absorbed directly into the body.
Not everyone is so convinced that Salibu’s perspective is accurate. Chris Snowdon, director of Lifestyle Economics, said that ecigs are still a good option to reduce health risks associated with smoking.
“Not only is nicotine not damaging to health but over a billion people worldwide enjoy using it, and so if a product can deliver nicotine without delivering cancer it should be seen as a very welcome development.”

Thats the problem with nicotine isnt it ? There is no evidence of addiction outside of the normal percentage of those who might become given the opportunity to be addicted to say shoe polish or textas or some other arbitrary substance

Still no explanation anywhere despite the big inflation of addiction in the news of how anyone came to the conclusion that out of 4000 chemicals nicotine is worse than crack or any better or worse than any of the other chemicals that smokers inhale ? Also no open explanations of how the NRT makers came to the conclusion that nicotine had to be singled out for use in patches etc.. but not many appear to be addicted to those ?

Vaping is psychologically a very complex behavior- You got society without any evidence screaming about addictiveness- which many take on regardless of lack of evidence

You have the have the hand to mouth action- which like smoking becomes habitual

Ritualistic behaviours which may carry over from smoking but be transformed into something else

Fear - say fear of harming yourself by actually smoking - so pushing yourself to vape in the beginning - even if vaping misses the ahh moments of smoking

Creating and normalising new habits and behaviours for better health

    and more ..

TBH this whole argument about nicotine on its own p*sses me off to no end - especially since the evidence points in the other direction

Found this from 2016 - which pretty much sums up the main points of vaping vs WHO - granted its an overly simplified version but it is out there

    Its actually quite depressing,

They have proven themselves (department of corrective services) irrevocably, incapable of keeping the best illicit drugs out of Western Australian prisons for decades.

Why it is believed that tobacco would prove easier to erradicate, eludes me.

However providing prisoners with a tank, pod, etc, filled with liquid nic of any strength will be a challenge to manage, but not impossible, then there are the bombs inside the device.

I can see the union having a fit.

Just a spray can of vege oil is enough to send them off the planet (propellant is LPG (Propane), and oil is sticky)

Need a strategy for theses systems, wish I had the answers.

Not so bad - vapers and snusers overseas at least are now being put in an interesting position bc Ash and others are looking to take tobacco companies to court for possible murder charges
(sorry locked article and I forgot to post earlier )
    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/t...ials-cg2rpv37j

Leaving the question that if they succeed- could vapers and snusers possibly do the same to public health for their blocking of vaping and snus ? I think the answer is a good maybe yes - but will vapers and snusers do it to public health? Well thats another question

Also - in terms of prison vaping there are already prisons overseas and in the US that allow vaping - although surprisingly they are not using flexible all in ones like they used to by the looks of it

    https://www.planetofthevapes.co.uk/n...son-vapes.html

although its not without its problems - the two piece ones like crossbar brand comes apart too easily and can be used to hide small things and there are issue in the UK about being able to freely return dogey vape pens - leaving the question reusable cigalike or disposable cigalike

and of course public health is still cluelessly in some places trying to throw its weight around needlessy (from july)
Kentucky: new law threatens vaping by prisoners - Vaping360

Over all though introducing mods into prisons esp all in one cigalike kinds shouldnt be too much of an issue - other than being well over priced (Things tend to be marked up over retail price in prison as it is )
