Blu Cigs acquired by Tobacco company

Lorillard tobacco - Brands such as Kent, Newport and now Blu Cigs.

    Bought for $135 million.

Blu Ecigs The Leading Electronic Cigarette Company Acquired By Lorillard

    From the Lorillard website -

    "Acquisition of blu ecigs"

"Lorillard announced today that it has acquired all of the assets of blu ecigs, a U.S. electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) company for $135 million in cash. The acquisition provides Lorillard with the leading brand, offering the best consumer experience and unique social networking features, in the rapidly growing e-cigarette category".

"blu ecigs is the best-selling e-cigarette brand, with the look and feel of traditional cigarettes - without the tobacco smoke, ash, or smell. blu ecigs is the market leader in providing innovative technology for an improved consumer experience that enhances the enjoyment and social aspect of e-cigarettes. blu ecigs will be a separate operating company of Lorillard and it is Lorillard's intention to retain blu ecigs' current management team and its headquarters in Charlotte, NC".

"blu ecigs are the perfect adjacency for us to participate in the smokeless market, but in a Lorillard way. That is, e-cigarettes offer many of the benefits of other smokeless products but do so in a way that is familiar and enjoyed by current adult cigarette consumers," said Murray Kessler. "We believe that blu will benefit from Lorillard Tobacco Company's regulatory experience and sales infrastructure which are needed for it, and the category, to reach its potential in a responsible manner."

Should be interesting to see how things pan out over there (and here for that matter) in the future.

    I haven't saved sh*t! woops:

Not so much about the blu cigs brand itself, more now a precedent has been set...

Maybe they will invest big $ dollars in e-cigs and make wonderful cheap products that work, awesome tanks that don't flood, great variable voltage mods, but then again maybe they will shut the site down and re-direct to their website

With the phenomenal growth of e-cig usage across the world this was only a matter of time.

Where do you think the nicotine comes from? They are already making money from vapers, now they are showing interest in being further up the food chain.

What we need to ensure is that as laws get drafted (and they will) that it does not restrict to the point that mods and juice making become illegal.

    interesting.
Which manufacturer would refuse it for that price? Makes you wonder where it will stop.
The legalities so would have to change here for it to be worthwhile in Australia though.

Not sure if it is good or bad.

if a tobacco Giant put the effort & money in the E cigarettes they are capable of making the best E cigarette the world has ever seen. or they just might shelve the whole lot!
