    E-cigarette Regulatory Impact Assessment Release?

In the Australian National Tobacco Strategy 2012-2018: Draft for consultation, Section 6.6 outlines the Australian Government's plan to "Consider further regulation of the contents, product disclosure and supply of tobacco products and non therapeutic nicotine delivery systems"

E-cigarettes are considered non-therapeutic nicotine delivery systems.

Read here; National Drug Strategy - 6.6 Consider further regulation of the contents, product disclosure and supply of tobacco products and non therapeutic nicotine delivery systems

At the end of it, it says; The Australian Government has commissioned a regulatory impact assessment in relation to e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products, which is due to report in 2012.

Does anyone know if that report has been released yet? (I'm still learning the nooks and crannies of the Aus Gov websites)

If not, any word on when it might be released?

PS: Would people here rather I just be emailing SAS these questions, or is it ok with you all that I make these questions part of open public AVF discussions?

Although there are some who would claim these aren't a good NRT product surely once some unbiased studies are conducted they will have to conclude that these are BY FAR the most successful NRT product currently available.

I get annoyed when I see people spouting crap and lies about e-cigs to suit their own agendas. Honestly if a 50 a day smoker can go from that to e-cigs overnight the proof is right there. Let's just pray the power brokers don't railroad the whole vaping movement.

We need people to understand the difference between tobacco and nicotine products. Presently it seems some have a hard time distinguishing the difference between the two and lump e-cigs and tobacco in the same basket.

Sometimes (often) the govt. makes a recommendation to look into things - a lot of the time these recommendations are not followed through. My bro works at health, I'll ask him if he's heard if this has even gone ahead.

"Some international jurisdictions (notably the US FDA) have begun to develop responses to ‘e-cigarettes’ to protect public health. Other jurisdictions (notably the United Kingdom) have announced they are exploring the potential benefits of these devices."

At least they didn't rule out benefits. But i'm not holding my breath.
