Public Heath Officials call for ban on E-cigs based on Biased Studies

Unapologetic prohibitionist Stan Glantz posted a blurb calling for all clean air policies to include e-cigarettes. The call is based on a German study that came out recently showing 6 chemicals, including formaldehyde that were present in electronic cigarette vapor.

    Read SteveVape's Blog Entry here.

It should be noted that Simon Chapman and his Student Protégé Becky Freeman have also been circulating this article as evidence that E-cigs are harmful.

See this AVF thread for information about how the journal Article is completely biased. Stan Glantz, Simon Chapman and Becky Freeman are trying to convince the public that vaping electronic cigarettes are harmful and that passive vaping is real and dangerous to others. They are doing it without checking the science, just merely reading a few sentences of the abstract and then impulsively shouting about it to the world.

It's depressing to know that these insincere assholes are paid by our governments, with our tax dollars, to misinform the public on issues that involves the health and lives of millions of people.

I remember reading the results of the gas chromatagraph and it was only 1 or 2 out of a few dozen that had TRACE amounts of those chemicals. They were old types of juice too before the consistency got better.

Most showed the three PV PG and nic only.

I read on a blog the other day an interview with the famous Greek cardiac specialist who claimed that an association of Greek e-cig businessmen had at there own cost had independent toxicology tests on ejuice and found "more than 100 e-liquids have been tested by independent university toxicological laboratories and have been found to contain no traces of nitrosamines, heavy metals or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons". Full interview here as posted by James Dunsworth E-Cigarettes and the Heart: A scientist speaks out. But of course it is all to no avail because the moralists and big pharma will conveniently not look at science when dogma will suffice.

Well that's about 10 or so chemicals, another 3990 to go to match tobacco. Sounds like a good start to me.

I read that these 2 chemicals are naturally occurring in a lot of fruits and other foods at higher levels that is found in ecigs. The trouble here is that these people are using a fear mechanism that have already been put in place in us, nobody around here is a chemist, so spout a few chemical names and everybody shits themselves. there's an army of informed vapers out there actively combatting this bullshit.

Don't we exhale formaldehyde naturally? ie. WITHOUT ecigs...

Or am I late to class? (as usual..)

Nope, but formaldehyde is a pass through stage in the break down of methane. It is present in the atmosphere in much larger amounts than vaping could ever produce. It's also not stored in the human body but breaks down into formic acid. It also breaks down quickly in sunlight. It is dangerous in large amounts or continued exposure in medium doses. It's a naturally occurring organic compound.

Bottom line is vaping introduces a much, much smaller risk than normal everyday pollution introduces to you body. So it is totally wrong for these people to spout this crap. But they will keep doing it as long as they think they can get a fear campaign going.

This is from my memory of chemistry, math and physics at uni but it was a long time ago hence my embarrassment at getting the coil resistance ass about in another post, I hadn't though about 1st year electrical theory in 10 years.
