First coil build - not getting Ω reading as per steam engine

    Hi guys,

Built my first coil on my first RDA. Got an infinite CLT IV

I had 26awg SS316 did 10 wraps dual coil, set it up (don't ask how many attempts to get 2 wraps I was happy with). Put them on the atty. Checked ohm reader getting like 1 Ω. Steam engine says I should get 0.4 Ω.

So I thought maybe 1 is not connected or the legs are touching something they should not. Made a little adjustment. Same thing. So I put on my regulated mod. Same reading slightly higher. Mucked around, could not see anything.

So I just started pulsing it, both sides fired up and I adjusted hot spots and that till heating from inside. Wicked it up and it works. Do you guys know what could be happening. I'm happy with the vape & the fact I did it myself for the first time. But am a little concerned.

    Any ideas.

    Ben

What did you use to wrap it in on? What's the inner diameter of the coil?

Pics of the coil might help too

it's double the coil half the ohms so two 1ohm coils will give you a .5 total.

When you make dual coils you want to get them as identical as possible. So if you make two 1 ohm coils and attach both of them to your atomiser you will end up with a reading of 0.5 ohms.

Can't upload photos. I have some but don't see an attachment button when posting. I'm on iPad so might be different.

    Sorry I forgot I.D. 3mm

So I just created a post on ELR so you can see a photo. First coil build - Ω seems funny - Rebuildable Atomizers and Tanks - E-Liquid Recipes Forum

We were talking about this "newbie confused because coil ohmage isnt what steam engine says it is" like it was just yesterday...last week actually...

    Rebuilding coils safely

    And posts above and after

Unless youre using kanthal, what you build will be different to what steam engine says, especially if youre dual coiling it (i still dont know why any bothers with dual coils, but thats me)

You have the right gauge wire, and if you used about 6/7 wraps to make a single coil ) 0.6-0.7, you'd probably be enjoying the best vape youre going to have about now

To expand on the reality vs steam engine thing, for the resistance i get using 26g 316 on 3mm id, steam engine reckons i need 9 wraps, pity that i get that with 7....

Build a single coil first would be my advice, see if that reads correctly

As for an ohms tester..why bother with it, it wont be accurate most likely, it might give you a ballpark...and it wont matter what it says, because whatever your mod reads is what it will work with....my thoughts on ohm readers and their pointlessness beyond kanthal here...

    this is good

is the ramp up [time it takes to get hot] slow? pretty much the only concern i'd have from what you have said

1 ohm is going to be safe, if you enjoy the vape, then good. VW devices often run well with higher ohms, since coils have more surface area...

SS and steam engine doesn't only catch out newbies. There was a discussion between seasoned builders, mathematiciand and electrcians in pdib's ecf thread last week and they couldn't work out what the steam engine app did to reach the conclusions it did
