    Rebuilding TFV8 short/hot spot

So last night I vaped on my rebuilt Limitless Plus for about an hour before it shorted on me, which didn't really surprise me what with it being my first attempt, but I was a little bummed this morning because I'm still waiting for my kanthal to come in before I can rebuild it.

Any who, my TFV8 came with an RBA head, so I thought I would have a play with that. Coils come preinstalled, so I popped it on the ohm reader (.25) and then onto my mod to dry fire. The coils weren't heating evenly so I tightened the screws, but they still weren't right. Strummed the coil that wasn't heating as quick, no dice. Compressed the coil that was heating quicker, still no dice.

One coil looked as though it was positioned a little further away from the posts, so I unscrewed it and tried to reposition it but but found it difficult because obviously the legs had been trimmed. Ended up repositioning both coils closer to the posts, but encountered a short, so repositioned them further away again.

I fixed the short, but now one coil has a strange looking hot spot on it - is this because of the short, and if so is it salvaged?

    Strum and squeeze . . . strum and squeeze - preferably with Ceramic tweezers . . ..

Yep, that's the coil shorting straight across. Strum the coil after firing it, and it should go away.

It's a lot easier to start with spaced round wire builds... :-D

    Way easier...

Wrap a contact coil, leave it on the post and stretch it out a bit, then compress it so it springs out even again.

Have you watched some videos on how to do this?

None in mind, but Phil uses much the same technique as I do. It's an old video, using 15 wraps of Ni200, but the technique is the same. Jump to time stamp 39:35
