Could you use dental silicon to make moulds of the panels you have then pour the resin into it the silicon moulds? Just asking as I'm no expert and was just wondering.
I use epoxy art resin (jewellery) which is stable enough for these panels, the resin is doming so you get a lovely pillow effect at the edges with a glass finish. You can use casting resin and make molds but this only needs 2-3mm and thats hard to get a perfectly flat gloss finish in a mould. You could make it thicker and sand to the right depth (to much trouble with heat and softening) Becasue the spare panels for this mod are so cheap i would pour directly onto the base, in something like my billet boxes where panels are not available its easier to use yupo and switch out the panels whenever you want a change. I use 3m double sided adhesive tape which is removable. Yupo is synthetic paper which is plastic paper (less than 1mm thick) and is uneffected by water. It also allows the use of alcohol inks if you want to go the faux wood/patina designs.

Ps if you pour resin directly to the metal base you need to prime the metal anyway so you dont save any work or expense.

This is only one of a thousand ways to do this.

Ok the next stage has begun. this are some play panels where I used black resin and then added the mica (shimmery powder) to the design. This is too messy to be viable. Pouring and making the design in the wet resin is too difficult to control and while its possible you only get one shot at the design. Much prefer to do the design, choose the best bits to cut out and then cover with clear resin.

the cheap and cheerful idea of a clear plastic just looks tacky and while it works I won't do them that way.

I much prefer to do the design a bit larger then cut out the best pieces. Some more testing of how this particular resin effects poiple.

these are the original design sheets

and the cutout panels...... they will look lighter when held upright rather than flat

The practice panels can be handled. I prefer to see the panels with the mod. It gives me a sense of what balance the panels need to be........so I bought one and this is what they look like on the mod. They are not permanently attached so will sit a micron lower when I take off the adhesie backing sheet

Just to make it a family affair. The purple is sitting on a sushi tray that Baz turned. Turning something square on a lathe just does my head in. hahahaha
