So I vaped in public for the first time on the weekend

I found it very awkward and uncomfortable, to say the least.

My friend and I went to an outdoor café for breakfast on Sunday, and knowing that it would make me uncomfortable, he kept pressuring me to do it... So I did.

I think I counted at least 12 funny looks, but not one person came up to me and asked me what I was doing. Disappointing. Lol.

On the plus side, it was less uncomfortable than knowing that I was blowing smoke in peoples general direction whilest they were trying to eat. I hate that shit.

Its like that at the start, but you will suprised how quickly you learn to vape everywhere without caring. Enjoy the lack of questions while it lasts, on average I have 3 people come up to me each night out and ask what I am doing and spend 5 minutes talking about vaping with them. Good thing is all my freinds are well used to me vaping so its not a conversation piece anymore with them , just strangers. Most of the time it doesn't bother me, and i enjoy having a chat to people , but sometimes i just am not in the mood.

In 2 years of vaping I havent had anyone come over angry, but i guess I have had a few rude stares from people when i vape inside a bar.

What about it made you uncomfortable?

Once a colleague asked me if I was embarrassed to use my ecig in public. I was surprised to say the least, as I'd not even thought about it, and it struck me as odd that this was his first reaction.

Obviously my answer was "of course not" but im that dilligaf kind of person. I'd be more embarrassed to be smoking an analog and killing myself in front of strangers tbh.

Just kick back and enjoy yourself. If people have the balls to ask you about it, then tell them! If they don't, who cares what they think anyway? In a few years time when they are more common most people will already know what the deal is, until then live on the (cutting) edge

I just don't like to be the centre of attention in any way, shape or form. I'm über-shy and have always been the type to just blend into the background and be ok with it. Also, I seem to have it in my head that people will think i'm doing something illegal. Ignorant people forming an uneducated opinion of me without getting the facts gives me the shits. That's why it annoyed me that everyone stared and whispered and pointed, but didn't bother to find out what I was doing or why I was doing it.

    Yes, I have issues lol.

Bars, pubs, restaurants, clubs, boats, cinemas, crown casino, etc. Just to name a few. Surprisingly how some people stare in horror, then say, "oh, that's one of those electronic thingies... Where did you get it from?"

Haven't had any negative instances, except for a flary nosed bouncer at crown who tried to show his authority. Realized what it was and and backed down. (Maybe cause I'm 5'10 ,103kg and mean looking, lol)

When I mention I haven't had an analog in over three years, their interest is multiplied. I think hiding and stealth vaping is detrimental to our cause, the more people are exposed to it the more it will be accepted. Vape on, I say!

I don't think I could ever vape in places you can't smoke.... Maybe in a pub if I was drunk enough lol. I think that there are a lot of uneducated people out there who can't distinguish smoke from vape, and I would rather explain my actions in a positive light (ie. outdoors in a café), rather than explaining to defend myself (ie. vaping indoors).

In fact, thinking about it, I hate explaining myself period. I guess that's why I'm so anti-drawing attention to myself.
