New Vapist. My experiences, thoughts and questions.

Been smoking for 10 years, wanted to kick it for at least 8 of those.
Tried everything: gum, patches, lozenges, hypnosis, champix (do not try this if you are a drinker)

Gave vaping a shot after a friend gave me a try of blueberry cheesecake from an ego-t.
Bought myself an ego-t type-b tank with low resistance atomisers from VapeBar (AU) (borrowed some juice) and an ego-c with a sample pack of organic VG juice from Vaperite (US).
Burnt out the atomisers on both the ego-t's before the ego-c arrived, despite the $40 extra express shipping.
Smoked about 5 analogs in two weeks.... 345 reduction in death sticks a week is a win as far as I'm concerned.

My nicotine addiction has probably risen, substantially to be honest, but I smelled the sea for the first time in a long time, my own BO at the end of a hot day and noticed the horrible stench of smoker's breath.

Overall strategy is to switch my addiction to this (hopefully) less carcinogenic but equally as nicotine-hitting, more-flavoursome delivery device and then slowly reduce the nicotine content of the juices.
I tried to smoke an analog just now and had to put it out. Both for the horrible taste and the fact that I was already past my nicotine limit.

    I find that acceptable.

So... I started with some Chinese stawberry and a menthol... obviously what was left over from my friend's stash. All VG and, well, more enjoyable than analogs. Then my vaperite sample pack arrived and it was amazing. Probably introduced about 5-10 people who are now ordering their own rigs.
Blueberry cheescake, english toffee, apple... are winners. The tobacco flavours I bought thinking that would help the transition were the worst tasting of the lot.

I went through these pretty fast. Trying to drown out the analog, multi-poison addiction (in much the same way as the cool-mint flavoured nicorette gum) with a safer, more pure and more enjoyable form.
I was planning to buy diluted nicotine juice and mix it with doublers but I ran out faster than I expected. So rashly imported some more.

The $150 worth of reduced PG from JuicyVapor are nothing like I was introduced to. Sharp stingy throat hit, terrible artificial flavours like lollies mixed with battery acid.

    So, my questions are:

    • Where is the best place to get realistic, enjoyable flavours from if you don't like artificial flavour esters?
    • How harmfull is the taste when over-vaping with an ego-rig?... either too hot or not enough juice results in a terrible chemical taste. Coughed up some blood, though probably only from throat irritation (though repeated irritation of cells is carcinogenic)... Is it the plastic burning? ego-c atoms glow inside, visible to people standing beside you in the dark.
    • what are the preferred rigs used by long-term vapists? ego-x have a multitude of problems...
    • What is the difference between burning a tobacco plant and quickly heating a PG/VG + unknown flavour chemicals and nicotine from china mix (is it really a smooth state-change or is it just a cleaner form of burning?)?
    • Is it safe to order doublers and triplers that say that they dissolve plastic? Gummi bear from JW?
    • Should we look more at the flavour chemicals than the known ingredients - nicotine, PG, VG?
    • What do you all think will happen when this become too mainstream to ignore? It is the most successful nicotine replacement therapy but the culture reeks of drug users and people having too much fun. vape+caffeine and vape+cialis does not help that perception. The existing nicotine replacement industry will not be happy if it gets allowed.
    • I've now been called a nicotine freebaser / crack-nicotine addict. What are your thoughts?

oh and where do I get a sig counting days since analogs?

Where is the best place to get realistic, enjoyable flavours from if you don't like artificial flavour esters?
Are 'organic' flavour esters better for you than artificial ones, extract flavour from fruit and you will likely have 1000 chemicals, some of which will not be good for you, create an artificial flavour out of half a dozen known and tested chemicals (the same 5 or 6 forming the main flavour from the fruit) and I would assume that to be safer.

How harmfull is the taste when over-vaping with an ego-rig?... either too hot or not enough juice results in a terrible chemical taste. Coughed up some blood, though probably only from throat irritation (though repeated irritation of cells is carcinogenic)... Is it the plastic burning? ego-c atoms glow inside, visible to people standing beside you in the dark.
Not used an ego-C, but any atomiser when allowed to run dry will then start to burn the left over deposits from evaporated flavour, god knows what they are, best to keep it wet, dry burning to remove these deposits certainly can stink up a room.

What is the difference between burning a tobacco plant and quickly heating a PG/VG + unknown flavour chemicals and nicotine from china mix (is it really a smooth state-change or is it just a cleaner form of burning?)?
I don't know .. but since we are more evaporating a batch of known chemicals instead of oxidising a large number at a high temperature. Those in the know (and prepared to speak) are estimating it as 1 to 2% of the risk of smoking.

Is it safe to order doublers and triplers that say that they dissolve plastic? Gummi bear from JW?
The human body is pretty tough, make your own choices. No one has died yet.

Should we look more at the flavour chemicals than the known ingredients - nicotine, PG, VG?
I think so, one company Flavour Art I think is doing just this and is undergoing some quite extensive testing.

What do you all think will happen when this become too mainstream to ignore? It is the most successful nicotine replacement therapy but the culture reeks of drug users and people having too much fun. vape+caffeine and vape+cialis does not help that perception. The existing nicotine replacement industry will not be happy if it gets allowed.
I imagine the NRT industry will come up with their own form of vaping before too long and attempt to get all the others banned, the typical modus operandi of the privileged. When and how successful they will be remains to be seen, they are in it for the long haul though, a 10 or 20 year delay to them will be nothing.

I've now been called a nicotine freebaser / crack-nicotine addict. What are your thoughts?
Call it what you want, it works and its not smoking.

Clicking on most of the sigs will take you to the site to create your own.

Dont you just love the ignorant masses? Freebasing describes the use of ammonia in cigarettes, which helps convert bound nicotine molecules in tobacco smoke into free nicotine molecules, therefore, boosting the effect of the nicotine on the smoker . Therefore , to be " freebasing " requires combustion . As there is no combustion involved with Ecigs , this is just totally wrong.

Nicotine is a poison , but not carcinogenic. As you would be ingesting nicotine as a smoker anyway , vaping is a much safer way of getting your nicotine fix.

If you are coughing up blood , for any reason , seek professional medical advice ASAP. I would think it highly unlikely that vapour from an Ecig was responsible , I am not aware of anyone who has complained of this .

There are a few vendors in this forum who can provide very pleasant liquids , many liquids from China are dodgy at best, and often bear no relation to the advertised flavour. Read through these forums , and you will quickly discover which vendors ( both domestic and international ) make good liquids.

Many of the harmful or toxic compounds in tobacco smoke are created by combustion , as there is no combustion in an Ecig , it is safe to assume that there are no harmful or toxic compounds caused by that process in Ecig vapour. Ecig vapour is predominately water vapour , with a few flavour and / or nicotine molecules attached.

Hi! Im the Postman , and I am a nicotine addict.
I am no longer , as a part of my addiction , ingesting thousands of toxic chemicals and compounds . I feel better , I can smell again , my tastebuds have returned , and I am wealthier . My house , car and clothing no longer reek of tobacco smoke. I can vape indoors , without causing actual discomfort to others.

Taste is a very subjective thing , what I enjoy may well make you feel ill . In this regard , you go through a bit of trial and error flavour wise , we have all bought juice that is closer in taste to rancid mastodon sweat , but you move on , in the search for that sometimes elusive all day vape!

It is virtually impossible to replicate the taste of burning vegetable matter ( and who in their right mind would want to ?). Tobacco liquids are very much a personal preference . Some are very close to the flavour of tobacco smoke ( particularly the cigar / pipe liquids) , but more generally , are closer in taste to the smell of fresh , unburnt tobacco . As you continue vaping , your tastes in juices will change . What you fell in love with this week , will make you shudder next week.

In regards to efficacy , have a look at my banner below. I was smoking 80 a day just 7.5 months ago. I no longer desire cigarettes , cant stand the smell of the smoke , and have never been tempted to try one , "just to see what its like"'

Hi Wizdum, thanks for sharing your story. Its great that you are out there spreading the word amongst your peers about vaping, you are possibly saving lives by doing that. I also had a crack at the eGo-T set up and found it to be ok, but after i switched the tank system for cartomizers i found my heaven. Not only did i find i was using less juice in the cartomizers, the flavour i am getting is at least double compared to the tanks.

Virgin Vapor sells organic pre mixed juice which have had really really good reviews. The Kona Coffee Milkshake has won an award for being such a great flavour.

If you decide to mix your own nic liquid with doublers (highly recommend) You should check out Juicewhore - Spliced lime, Rasberry Freeze, Purple Crunch, Apple Hookah and while you are there grab a bottle of Delicate Pipe, i know you said tobacco flavours taste bad to you now, but this also happened to me when i started vaping. As your tastebuds adjust you will find that what you like and don't like change, so if you have a bottle of tobacco flavour sitting in your cupboard untouched for a month, one day you may just feel like a savoury vape (possibly while drinking) and it will be there nice and steeped for you to try.

If you are really worried about inhaling flavours, some people will just vape nic liquid mixed with VG, it is said to have a sweet creamy taste on its own.

And as for the people calling you those names, i feel that everyone has their vice. When people question me about my addiction i ask them if they drink coffee, then ask them when they think they will quit drinking it.

Close, but not quite. I used to believe exactly this as the vast majority of information I had read about nicotine had either been from bias sources (pharma or tobacco companies) or from forums like ECF. Last night I finished reading "Smoke Screens" by Richard White and there is a fantastic bit in there explaining exactly what is going on from a chemical point of view:

"Nicotine, in today's usage, refers to a variety of chemical compunds that are derivatives of a specific base chemical - freebase nicotine....In actuality, the nicotine found in tobacco is a mixture of two "salts" of nicotine: nicotine citrte and nicotine malate. The nicotine in gum and patches is typically nicotine sulphate. Finally, the most common form of nicotine found in nature is nicotinic acid (otherwise known as niacin, or vitamin B3).

"True nicotine, however, is called "freebase nicotine" which, unlike it's various derivatives, is a strong reducing agent...All green plants containe nicotine and use this property to break apart water molecules during photosynthesis.

"Freebase nicotine does exist in tobacco leaves, in fact "freebase nicotine" is simply the correct term for what we commonly just call "nicotine". Freebase nicotine is by no means an additive, rather it requires an alkaline environment to be released. As such, some tobacco companies add ammonia to the tobacco to ensure an alkaline environment is present which allows the freebase nicotine to be released."

(My note: the importance here for US is that PG is also alkaline)

"Somehow, some people state that cigarettes are as addictive, or more addictive, then heroin or cocaine. This is simply not true. When a heroin or cocaine user gives up, they suffer severe physical withdrawal symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, cramps, sweating and so forth. A smoker does not experience such symptoms. There is a difference between "habit" and "addiction"....Smokers may be psychologically addicted, where they are duped into believing they need to smoke to function properly, but in reality abstaining from smoking will not result in the body breaking down."

well there is only 2 of your questions im gonna have a stab at:

    - Some of the best flavors ive tried have been the dekang ones from Healthcabin.com, they are an all in one (no mixing) meaning the flavor with nicotine in it, cheap and very real and enjoyable
or you can get your nicotine base from there with your desirable percentage of VG and/or PG, then mix in flavors from Vapebar or Juicewhore awesome.

    - For some rigs, well with what i know so far, which is not much hahah
is the Provari (my opinion), this is considered to be the Rolls Royce of e-cigs with many of vapers, for quality, usability, durability and good looks.
Then you have some other variable voltage Mods/rigs like the lava tube which is what im using, which essentially is a (Poorvari) a poor mans Provari lol but i LOVE IT.

ohh and the "since ive started vaping" banner you can get simply by clicking on mine or anyone's banner

    Hope this helps (a bit)

sorry for deviating here but I am confused by some of your banners.
TomTD did your cigarettes cost $1.25 each?
And CCC's banner works out at 90cents each

    Is my maths wrong?
3 months ago I used to buy a pack of 50 for $27.00 =54 cents for each cigarette

when i set my banner up all it said was how much a pack is and how many you smoke a day, which for me was $25 ish for Longbeach 40s and about 18 a day
but i think where it goes wrong is that the banner does not ask you the quantity of that pack so yer i think your right

Stop smoking in analog and upgrade to HD vapor!
